Music Magazine Photo Presentation

The photos i took for my music magazine i put into a presentation to show the lighting the angles and also the focus of the shots i took.

Layouts For Music Magazine

i decided to make layouts for each of my pages so i could have a guideline in how i was going to layout each page, i took into account the number of images i needed and where the writing would be, where the mast head would be and also where everything would go. i also did the same for my school magazine as well!

School magazine Photos

With the photos i took  for my preliminary task of the school magazine i decided to present them on a document and scattered them around to show the variety of angles, focuses and also to convey the different options  had to put on my front cover. 

Music Magazine Website Analysis

I was tasked with looking at the ways that different music magazines put out their websites and also what certain ones have to offer and what others do not. I decided to look at magazines that looked at the type of music i was interested in and what music i decided to base my music magazine on, they were Mojo and Kerrang. Both of these magazines have different things to offer like Mojo had the option to look back on the front covers of past issues from decades back. Both also give you the option of watching interviews and songs from gigs that the magazine has covered which i think is a very good idea as it involves the reader much more into the article inside the magazine. the colours and styles of the magazines are both very different as well, the Mojo magazine was a very plain and clean cut way of producing a webpage with just the basic information on it where as the Kerrang webpage as it had a much more gritty feel to it. they were both very easy to navigate as they both had the toolbar at the top of the page, this gave a very simple way of looking around the website.

Double Page Spread Analysis.

I did an analysis on the double page spread of the Mojo magazine with The Specials on the cover. i did this to get ideas for the layout and also to get an idea of how much text and images i needed, also

Music Magazine Front Cover Analysis.

As Part of my planning folder i also decided to analyze 2 different magazine covers in order to look at what other magazines offered and to also get different ideas for my own magazine. i decided to choose Mojo as its target audience is similar to mine, it had an article on the band The Specials which were a band i really liked and would like to do a similar article on perhaps not that specific band but one like it. The other front cover was again Mojo but with Sid vicious on the front which again was another type of music i was looking to incorporate into my magazine was punk and there was no one else better to do this than the founders of punk the sex pistols. i got both of these images from the Mojo website as they were not recent issues and i just thought that the look of both of these magazine were great and were relevant to the bands that they were writing articles on. i also felt that i could possibly use the look these magazines into my own also the sell lines as well with the fact they gave you a free CD was a great idea. 

Picture Sequence.

Myself, Amber Horry and Jodie Lesly all went out with cameras and were given the task to make a story up through the use of the images we had taken. we all went outside into the school grounds to look for good or interesting locations. i found the old P.E store cupboard which was abandoned and grimy full of old equipment and had graffiti all inside of it, i felt that this gave the place an almost gritty more real feel to it so i decided to make the story of a fight. the first picture i took was of Jodie giving a pose with lots of attitude and then one of Amber again giving the camera lots of attitude, i did this to let the person who was looking at this as a story to be a kind of introduction to both of the characters that were in this sequence. the next photo i took was of the pair squaring up to each other, i took this in front of the graffiti so it gave he picture a more of a gritty feel to it. The next photo was of the pair fighting again emphasizing the basis of the story i did a side view shot to show the action in a much better way so i could capture everything. The photo after this was of Amber getting slapped in the face i decided to do this shot like it was almost like a slo mo shot in a film to show great detail and also the knockout blow. To emphasize who won the fight i the took a photo of Jodie running away and Amber looking very happy with herself. i think that nearly all the photos were good quality and were of good focus also the fact that they were all taken different view points i think gave it a better edge.  

Music Magazine: Front Cover, Contents Page, Double Page Spread.

Here is my Music magazine front cover and my double page spread and also my contents page... i used photoshop to do the front page and contents page and in design to do the double page spread. The colour scheme i chose was red adn black i think that this made it stand out i got the idea for 

the colours from the front cover and music cd of the film Football Factory i think that this helped the piece to look more gritty which was the look i was going for. 

Music Magazine Mind Maps.

i have now done a mind map of ideas for the name of my music magazine i did this in powerpoint and firstly i scattered around the different names i could think of that would go well with a rock/punk/indie music magazine. i then thought out laying it out like a spider diagram with the title in the middle and the names coming off of it. i then made the background black and put the words in different fonts and bright colours to make them stand out. After this i then made a mind map of different music magazine covers in again powerpoint, i went onto the internet to look at different magazines and the way they laid them out i chose magazines like Q, NME,  Kerrang and Mojo. i chose these because they all coincide with the nature and genre of my magazine. i again used the idea of a spider diagram to lay these out. i made the background red to give it some more colour and to stand out and make the presentation better also it went along the original colour i used for the double page spread and contents page. i then used images of the magazine covers and i dotted them around and titled the different magazines they were from. 

School Magazine

Firstly i have created a school magazine front cover. Myself and Katie Oakham went out with a camera to take appropriate photos to us for the cover of my magazine, these had to be either of the school, pupils or teachers. i took a number of photos from different view points, from portrait to landscape. some of the photos i took were of students and staff just going about their daily routines. once i had taken many photos i took them back to media to look at them and choose which pictures i would use and bring into mind the quality, focus and how appropriate they were to a school magazine. i finally decided to use a picture of a girl i had taken, then i imported the photo into photoshop and cleaned up the picture with the use of tools like the healing brush, and the magic wand tool to take out any imperfections and any focus issues with the photo, i took out the red eye that happened when the photo was taken to make it look much more professional. i used the whole picture as a background and main image of my front cover, i began to put into the masthead and cover lines and sell lines. to find the specific look of the font that i was looking for i went onto www.dafont.com where i found a suitable main font that i used on the front cover. i decided to name the magazine LTA News as i wanted the magazine to be informative about events in the school but not too formal. My strap line was "celebrating excellence all day everyday" i thought that this coincided with the motto of the academy  which was "Act Enterprisingly, Work In Partnership, Achieve Excellence."  For my strap line i used a different Font to make it stand out also i used a different colour to the colour of the masthead and sub headings which was a green i used instead a yellow to these stand out, to make the word excellence stand out again i used a different colour which was a purple. I put LTA Team down the side to make the template for the advertisement of  stories inside the magazine.i used drop shadow on the fonts to make them stand out and to also make them look much more professional and also outer glow to make them stand out more. i used the Leigh Academy logo to emphasize the fact that this is a school magazine and again put drop shadow on this and a green tint to make it stand put again but also to coincide with the colour of the fonts.
